Cleveland Cavaliers: What caught our eye in win over Indiana Pacers
The Cleveland Cavaliers stunned the Indiana Pacers with a thrilling 92-91 win thanks to a game-winning tip-in from Larry Nance Jr.
These two teams came into this one going in completely opposite directions. The Cleveland Cavaliers have been struggling recently without their leader in Tristan Thompson, who is reportedly out with a foot sprain. The injury list continues to grow in Cleveland with Jordan Clarkson out against the Indiana Pacers due to lower back soreness (due to Cavs.com’s Joe Gabriele) and the Cavs still hadn’t settled on a consistent starting lineup due to the injuries. On the other end of the spectrum the Pacers came into the game as the hottest team in the NBA with seven straight wins.
This was an ugly game on the offensive end. Neither team could establish any type of rhythm on offense and the game slowly become a slog. The Cavs hung around in this game and had a chance to steal it at the end thanks to two crucial misses at the free throw line from Victor Oladipo. With the Cavs down one, head coach Larry Drew designed a play to get Rodney Hood the game-winning shot at the buzzer. Hood’s shot fell short, but Larry Nance Jr. was there to clean up the mess and give the Cavs the win.
Nance was the Cleveland Cavaliers’ best player all night. He filled up the stat sheet with 15 points, 16 rebounds, six assists, three steals, and a block, per ESPN.
Collin Sexton contributed 12 points on six-of-13 shooting. The rookie once again had a tough time initiating the offense and getting good looks in the flow of the offense. The shots that he did take and make seemed to come outside the flow of the game. But in his defense there was nothing pretty about the offense from either team in this one.
Here’s what we learned from the exciting win.
