Collin Sexton continues to show he can score.

Sexton had his shot going as he finished with 23 points. He did a great job of attacking the basket, getting to the line, and even incorporated a couple of floaters to his game. The 19-year-old continues to show that he can be a more than capable scorer in this league.

This game also showed that he has a lot of room for growth outside of scoring. Fox had his way with Sexton on the other end of the floor as he put up an efficient 30 points. Sexton really struggled defending the pick-and-roll and was burned repeatedly by Fox in the open court. The rookie also struggled to get his teammates involved in the offense as he finished with just two assists and five turnovers.

So much of the talk after the draft focused on Sexton’s supposed lack of outside shot. He’s shown that he can be more than a capable shooter from the outside so far in his career. Unfortunately, he hasn’t consistently shown yet that he can be much more than a gifted scorer.

De’Aaron Fox is a perfect example of the type of player that Sexton has the ability to become. Fox has a very similar skill set and does a great job of using his speed to get to the basket and setting up his teammates. Sexton has the ability to use his speed in similar ways. It’ll be interesting to see if Sexton can make a similar leap as Fox did from his first to second year in the league.

The encouraging part about Sexton is his ability to improve. We’ve seen the vast improvements he’s made to his shot from the Las Vegas Summer League. Hopefully we’ll see a similar level of improvement in other aspects of his game as well.
