Cleveland Cavaliers: King James Gospel roundtable #2
By Dan Gilinsky
Nearing the end of the second week of the season, the Cleveland Cavaliers are still winless. We examine a few reasons why, and establish some possible solutions for the rest of the year while taking a peak at the upcoming 2019 NBA Draft.
The Cleveland Cavaliers going 0-5 to start the year is still hard to believe, considering the team isn’t quite as talent-deprived as it was back when the first time LeBron James left, as we’ve mentioned throughout the last few months. That is what is staring Cleveland and head coach Tyronn Lue in the face, though, and it’s unclear how much hope there still is for this year now.
The Cavs are probably not making the postseason, and the odds were probably stacked against them to do that either way if prominent players in the Eastern Conference remain mostly healthy.
So far, the Cavaliers haven’t really done anything particularly well, but their opponents have. Cleveland is being outscored by 12.8 points per 100 possessions (which is the worst in the NBA), and they are in the bottom six in effective field goal percentage, true shooting percentage and assist-to-turnover margin, per NBA.com.
A key reason for those rough numbers is how badly Cleveland is losing on the three-point line, as they are last in three-pointers made per game and have given up the second-most per game.
Needless to say, things aren’t great right now for the Wine and Gold, and now Kevin Love is dealing with reported foot soreness. He missed Cleveland’s last game against the Detroit Pistons, and that hurt, as Lue and the Cavs lost 110-103 to Blake Griffin and company.
So what should the Wine and Gold do going forward?
Here’s what our team thought.
