Cleveland Cavaliers: 3 reasons why Cavs should sign Tyler Ulis
Point Guard Depth
The Cleveland Cavaliers are one trade away from being extremely thin at the one. The Cavs have ten-year veteran George Hill leading the charge as of now with No. 8 overall pick Collin Sexton behind him.
Behind those two is Jordan Clarkson, a player the Cavs have been adamant about playing alongside a traditional point guard. While he can take on the offensive load, Clarkson is more of a scoring guard than a true on-court leader.
That’s where Tyler Ulis can come in. Ulis spent two seasons at the University of Kentucky and two more with the Phoenix Suns. For his career, Ulis has averaged seven assists per 36 minutes, almost double Clarkson’s 3.6.
To be fair, Ulis might not get too many minutes unless Hill is traded. So, while the Cavs could use him, they’d also be able to trade Hill anytime throughout the season with little thought about replacing his production if they bring Ulis onboard.
The Cavs have several two guards and an array of players at every other position so snagging a third capable point in case of injury might not be such a horrible idea. However, depth isn’t the only reason the Cavs should consider Ulis.
