Cleveland Cavaliers: 3 realistic expectations for Collin Sexton
Expectation No. 3: Finish as the Cavs second-leading scorer
The Cleveland Cavaliers have one clear leader, Kevin Love. Love should hit that 20 points per game mark for the first time in nearly half a decade.
After him, who will be the Cavaliers next scoring option? Following his first few games, I’d expect Sexton to settle in as one of the Cavs main scoring options.
Clearly not a great shooter, Sexton is an elite scorer.
At the University of Alabama, Sexton averaged 19.2 points per game, and, as previously mentioned, he averaged 19.6 per game at the Las Vegas Summer League. However, in both instances, the 6-foot-3 guard didn’t shoot over 45% from the field. Meaning, efficiency might be an issue for Sexton especially at the much quicker NBA level.
Regardless, it seems unlikely that any other Cavalier even comes close to matching Sexton’s impact once established. A player like Rodney Hood or Cedi Osman are certainly up there though, but neither seems to possess the dynamic first step that Sexton has.
This season, as far as who scores, will be intriguing, but I fully expect Sexton to be one of the team’s main leaders and hopefully a top scoring option.
