Cleveland Cavaliers: 3 realistic expectations for Collin Sexton
Expectation No. 2: Become a three-point threat
This is both an expectation and a bold prediction. Sexton will have to eventually become a three-point threat, and by the end of the season, he should be at least competent from deep.
Playing and practicing alongside all-time great shooter Kyle Korver should help Sexton develop his three-point shooting. After all, Korver helped LeBron James on his free throws last season, and following Ohio.com’s report on April 17, James shot 75% from the charity stripe, significantly higher than his regular season average.
During Sexton’s sole collegiate season, he averaged 1.3 threes per game yet shot just 33% from deep. With the deeper three-point line, Sexton will have to take a step back while trying to improve his jumper.
Ultimately, Sexton’s rookie season should resemble Russell Westbrook’s.
Westbrook shot just 27% from deep, so understanding that, don’t be surprised if Sexton doesn’t quite shoot as well as we expect his rookie season. Adding that will be imperative for his career though. Even Westbrook has developed a shot and averaged 2.5 threes per game a few seasons ago.
It’s possible, and hopefully, Sexton makes it happen sooner rather than later.
