Who will start opening night?

The Cleveland Cavaliers opening day starting lineup is one of the biggest questions surrounding this team. For four of the five positions, there could be competition with both positive and negative impacts for each decision.

Kevin Love, the former MVP-candidate, will be the only true lock to start opening night. Most likely starting at the four, Love opens up a discussion of who should start at the five with his pronounced desire to play his traditional power forward position.

That said, who rounds out the starting lineup?

To start, I’d assume George Hill who is trusted by Lue will get the start, yet throughout the season, Collin Sexton should eventually take over. Sexton is bound to lead the team eventually, and while it would shock most, letting him lead from the beginning wouldn’t be a bad idea.

People like new looks, they crave innovation, and allowing Collin Sexton to take over the team might bring that anticipation and grit to fans.

As for the other positions, the battles will be between JR Smith and Rodney Hood, Kyle Korver and Cedi Osman, and Tristan Thompson and Larry Nance Jr. Traditionally, Lue would play the three veterans, Smith, Korver and Thompson.

This team is in flux, constant change. They’re transitioning to a younger era following James’ departure, but should they rush into making these inexperienced young guns the face of their franchise?
