Rodney Hood

Although not technically under contract, Rodney Hood will eventually begin the season as a Cavalier. He’ll either be under the qualifying offer or re-sign with a longer, hopefully three-year contract.

More from King James Gospel

The reason Hood struggled on the market this past offseason was because of his horrific play during the second half of the season with Cleveland. Hood scored just 10.8 points per game, down exactly six points per game from his stint during the first half of the season in Utah.

Under his $3.4 million qualifying offer or a brand new deal, Hood could be a prime addition for any team looking to compete.

He’s a special type of player though. Hood is an elite second-unit player, but he struggles to play with other superstar athletes, shown through his play alongside LeBron James.

However, he should, at the same time, allow Cleveland a nice return if dealt. Hood could be worth a first-round pick or a bit less. The price of Hood is relatively unknown, especially after his tumultuous offseason.

At 6-foot-7 and just 25-year-old, it seems likely that Hood doesn’t want to play long-term in Cleveland. Just like with star players, he’d then be shipped out from Cleveland without a second thought.

Hood’s future is in Hood’s hands. He can play for less than this value or sign for potentially less than he could make during the 2019 offseason. Whatever he picks, it’s still likely he could be dealt this season.
