Cavs won the trade for Wiggins

Andrew Wiggins was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. The Cavs, just like they did with Jones, immediately flipped Wiggins for Timberwolves MVP-candidate Kevin Love.

Now, four years into the trade, the Cavaliers still won.

Of the numerous rookies that will be mentioned, Wiggins is still by far the most impactful player. He even put up 23.6 points per game one season, but moving forward, Wiggins still has a few insurmountable flaws that have hindered his development.

For starters, he can’t shoot. Wiggins shot just 33 percent from the three-point line last season and less than 44 percent from the field. Along with his shot, the volume scorer has also yet to find a good passing game, averaging 2.3 assists per game at his peak.

Top it off with below-average defense and it’s easy to see why Wiggins has not quite lived up to the hype; however, his bank account has. Wiggins is under contract until the 2022-2023 season in which he’s guaranteed $33.3 million.

At 6-foot-8, Wiggins was expected to be a transcendent player when selected before the likes of superstar Joel Embiid in 2014. While he might still develop into a better form of his current self, Wiggins is almost guaranteed to not live up to the hype that was put upon him in 2014.

A career 19.7 points per game scorer, Wiggins is still a useful piece of the puzzle for Minnesota and has a reasonably bright NBA future.
