With no championships and only one all-star appearance, Kyle Korver who is known only as an elite sharpshooter capable of making the Hall of Fame?
Cleveland Cavaliers sniper Kyle Korver is just 69 pointers behind Jason Terry for the third-most three-pointers made ever. The only two players above him are Reggie Miller and Ray Allen who are both Hall of Famers.
Which begs the questions, is Korver worthy of a spot in the Hall of Fame?
The biggest stat that sticks out is for a career Korver has been his elite-level three-point percentage. Though he shoots merely 3% better than Allen and Miller, Korver might not quite hit their overall totals. Korver is entering his 18th season too.
Though some may argue that Korver is more one dimensional than Miller and Allen, they do have a good point. Allen and Miller both possessed an athleticism early in their careers.
Korver is a three-point shooter. However, what helps Korver is that he is one of a kind when it comes to the three-point list.
While other players within the top ten are multi-dimensional, it is more impressive as he works his way up the list because defenders know that he is not a threat to drive to the basket. Though it doesn’t mean he can’t, most of his points come off shots that he creates by moving without the ball.
If Korver moves into 3rd and stays in the league long enough to pass Miller up for the second spot, it will be interested how respected he is by voters.
What helps Korver’s chances are the fact that we live in an era that has been revolutionized by the three-point shot, and it certainly a shooter’s league with players that spread the court.
This is one reason for Korver’s longevity.
In this league, there is always a need for a great three-point threat like Korver. Even at 37, Korver is still worthy of a first-round pick.
Additionally, one fight against Korver’s Hall of Fame odds are that he doesn’t even have a double-figure career average.
No matter what happens, he will go down as one of the greatest shooters ever. That we will not take for granted.
