Why Collin Sexton brings the Cleveland Cavaliers much-needed hope
By Samuel Baum
The Cleveland Cavaliers needed hope following LeBron James departure. With Collin Sexton, they’ve found someone to put that hope in.
Collin Sexton is the key to the future of the Cleveland Cavaliers. After all, does it matter how good Cleveland is this year if they are fun to watch?
While this year Cleveland does not have the talent to compete for a Finals, it does not mean though that this year is hopeless and that fans should just disregard the team.
Sexton may just be the key to Cleveland fans still having hope for a successful future. Young players that become stars help not only the team, but a city and help attract stars to build a future.
There is nothing more exciting to a team than when a young player lives up to all the hype that precedes him. While Sexton has shown flashes of greatness this past summer league, it is still unknown how good he will be this coming season, when playing against more elite NBA defenders.
If he lives up to the potential he has shown, it will help Cavs fanbase get over the fact that LeBron is gone. James’ departure hurt, but if Sexton can average 17 and 6, the pain will be even more short-lived.
The perfect example is the Utah Jazz.
The season prior to last, Gordon Hayward left the Utah Jazz, and though they lost a star, the Jazz gained Donavan Mitchell, and he changed the face of the franchise and gave new energy to the city and team.
Mitchell made fans forget about Hayward, and with him carrying the Jazz over the Thunder in the first round of the playoffs, he made the city believe in a bright future in Utah.

However, even if Sexton doesn’t live up to what Mitchell has done, his presence and work ethic could be enough.
Perhaps the most personable example to Cavs fans is Kyrie Irving.
Though Kyrie is now playing for the Boston Celtics, he was the hope to a city after Lebron left. While the Cavs went just 21-45 in a shortened season due to a lockout, Kyrie brought hope to Cleveland.
With his flashes of greatness and scoring created by his dazzling dribbling moves that created crafty layups, Kyre was the hope that Cleveland rallied around which ultimately lead to the return of Lebron James.
Sexton can do the same.
Sexton has all the intangibles of a star in the making. He has the athleticism, the work ethic and the will to be the best player in the league.
We have seen everything from his dunking ability, to his craftiness, to his defense that sparked hope in Cleveland fans. Even in the summer league, he brought joy to. Remember when he flexed Josh Hart into bricking a three? Or, the other instance, when he drained a game-tying three?
Sexton already has a little highlight reel in Cleveland.
In every stage of his basketball career, Sexton has been a star but not only a star but the best player on his team. Sexton may just be the hope Cleveland needs to begin building a successful future in Cleveland.
