The Cleveland Cavaliers have had one chaotic offseason, and now coach Lue and staff will have their hands full prepping this team for the new year.

This year will be the start of many unknowns and new beginnings for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

With a new team along with numerous roster changes, players have the opportunity to step up into bigger, unfamiliar roles, and it will be interesting to see how Tyronn Lue coaches this year’s team.

Many have wondered if Lue really is a good coach, or did he just look good considering the Cavs were always in contention because of LeBron James and the talent he was given in Cleveland? Tyronn has been coaching the Cavs for four years, three of them as the head coach.

Entering into his fifth season, Lue will have to change the style of his coaching. In past years, he has had at his disposal arguably the greatest player of all time. This year he will have to draw up plays down the stretch instead of just handing LeBron the ball and letting him create.

How will he react to that and the inability to rely heavily on one player?

The biggest dynamic about this year for coaching is the realization that the Cavs won’t be competing for a championship.

The players are smart enough to realize that it’s a process and they’re a rebuilding team this year and maybe for several years. As a coach, you will have to get the team to buy into the process. The Cavs are hoping that in 3-5 years they’ll be in championship contention.

Growing the talented core players that they have in hopes that they turn out to be some great players with good chemistry is the goal for Lue.

This year the Cavs will need to be motivated to have a successful season.

Though motivation comes from each player, the Cavs will need a coach that can guide the young talent this year.

Lue will need to prove that he not only can he lead this year’s team but be a good coach when it comes to the X’s and O’s on which the great coaches are judged. Every time you have a new team and much youth, there will be growing pains.

How they are dealt with is another issue altogether and how it translates into growth for the future is what Lue must figure out.

If there is one thing for sure, this year will be a true test of how good of a coach Tyron Lue is.
