The Cleveland Cavaliers are attempting to stay relevant, but in the midst of that, they should consider making a trade prior to the season commencement.

Following LeBron James’ departure, the Cleveland Cavaliers future, especially their immediate future, seemed extremely foggy. Did they want to plan for the future or play their chips to compete now?

They’ve clearly planned for immediate success as Kevin Love received a four-year extension, locking him in for the next five years. That move, however, is a great move both for business and morale.

Along with signing Isaiah Taylor, it seems the Cavs stacked backcourt could lead them to engage even further in the trade market. They’ve already been active this offseason after bringing in Sam Dekker for hardly anything.

The Cavs have several assets that should and could be on the trading block. Ideally, the Cavs could trade Kyle Korver for a first-round pick or JR Smith for some assets and cap relief. However, both players can mentor and teach those youngsters that Cleveland brought in.

While trading them does have perks, keeping them could be even more beneficially for the development of Collin Sexton and other inexperienced Cavalier guards.

That said, while it might not be beneficial, the Cavs have to trust their staff and make the best basketball move. These five trades could certainly be the best basketball move for the Cavaliers.
