These three teams could all see a benefit in adding Kevin Love, shedding a bad contract and a decent young player, and then shedding a first round pick to go for it in 2019 and beyond.

Each of these teams has considerable salary devoted to a lot of players past 2019, so it would make sense to lock in a five-time All-Star for the next four years while giving up only one young player, one bad contract, and one first round pick.

These teams could see that the first round pick would be high teens or low twenties, meaning it has less value. For the Cavaliers, each of the bad contracts come off the books after 2019 and they get both a first round pick and a young player under some team control.

It’s what they would have wanted for Love in the first place and it becomes easier to get once you consider these teams’ cap situations.
