Cleveland Cavaliers rookie point guard Collin Sexton is expected to be great. His peak could realistically be former MVP, Russell Westbrook.

With the No. 8 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, the Cleveland Cavaliers selected Collin Sexton.

After nearly a month of waiting, we finally know the direction in which the Cavs are heading. They’re looking to rebuild their team yet stay relevant in a lacking Eastern Conference at the same time.

The Cavs, who are investing heavily into a youth movement, will be doing their best to develop guards like Collin Sexton, Rodney Hood and Cedi Osman into elite players at the next level. Being able to develop skilled, positionless players is the next step for head coach Tyronn Lue.

Their youth movement and their continued relevance will need much more than just Kevin Love, who the Cavs recently agreed to a contract extension with. Love will be a Cavalier, barring any trade, for the next five seasons.

With Sexton leading the charge, it’ll be good to have an elite veteran presence on a roster looking to get younger. That said, with Love slimmed down from his Minnesota days, this Cavaliers team will likely push the pace.

Letting Sexton make mistakes and push the pace will help him develop. If we’re lucky, he’ll develop the same way former MVP and current all-star point guard Russell Westbrook did.

Westbrook is a realistic ceiling for the young Sexton.
