Jamal Crawford

Jamal Crawford has become an NBA journeyman at this point in his career. Through 17 years as an NBA player, Crawford has played for seven different teams.

Additionally, at 37-years-old, Crawford has experience that few players in this league have; Crawford has been in every situation imaginable.

He’s a perfect veteran acquisition for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Coincidentally, Crawford was actually drafted by the Cavaliers with the eighth overall pick in the 2000 NBA draft.

However, Crawford was traded to the Chicago Bulls before even playing a game. In Chicago, Crawford joined a 15-win Bulls team desperate to rebuild after the retirement of Michael Jordan.

Crawford played four seasons with the Bulls before being traded away.

From this point on, Crawford’s career trajectory improved enormously. Crawford’s role with his teams increased as did his production.

For a 15-year stretch from 2002-2018, Crawford averaged 15.6 points on 41% shooting. Since the 2000’s, no player has had more seasons averaging 10+ points per game (tied with three other players). Crawford’s scoring performances over the years made him a three-time winner of the Sixth Man of the Year award.

Off-the-court, Crawford’s vast knowledge and experience would be amazing for the Cavaliers to add as well. Crawford could work wonders with the developing players in the locker room.

Furthermore, Crawford can still be relied on to put up solid numbers. Last season, Crawford played 20.7 minutes per game and averaged 10.3 points per game.

The Cavaliers would be silly not to pursue him.
