Three high-priority free agent targets for the Cavaliers next summer
Klay Thompson
Other than Irving, another marquee free agent in 2019 is Minnesota Timberwolves guard Jimmy Butler. Also like Irving, the Cavaliers should steer clear of him. Butler seems like a player that would not fit in on a young, rebuilding Cleveland roster.
He alienated both rookies and the coaching staff during his last year with the Chicago Bulls and apparently is fed up with Wolves youngsters Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns. Butler may not be the best fit for the Cavaliers due to his attitude.

Instead of Butler, the Cavaliers may want to try and bring in Warriors guard Klay Thompson. The thing is, why would he want to leave a cushy situation in Oakland?
The Dubs team have been taking discounts for a while to keep the team together and that may come to an end soon. Both Steph Curry and Durant are two of the best players on the roster, and the NBA, and will eventually ask to be paid like the best. With that, players like Thompson may be on his way out of the Bay.
If Thompson were to leave, he could land in a perfect situation in Cleveland. His three-point shooting and defense would be the perfect match next to Collin Sexton, as they could form the most dynamic backcourt in the league.
Thompson could also mentor Sexton in terms of outside shooting, which is something the Young Bull struggles with. He would also be able to team up with childhood friend Kevin Love and wreck a weakened Eastern Conference.
Thompson may have whipped the Cavaliers three times in the NBA Finals, but he can atone his sins by coming to The Land.
