The Cleveland Cavaliers should go all in for Kawhi Leonard
The Cleveland Cavaliers need help in order to return to the promise land, and Kawhi Leonard might be that necessary piece.
The reason that Kawhi Leonard is still a Spur is because of their asking price. Could the Cleveland Cavaliers come out of left field and go all in for the superstar?
Right now, the Cleveland Cavaliers have no rumors relating them to Leonard. One of the several teams derailed by LeBron James, the Toronto Raptors, are in the driver’s seat for the Klaw. But as we’ve seen all around this postseason, rumors don’t necessarily equate to action.
[Update at 8:24 AM: the San Antonio Spurs have agreed to trade Leonard to the Raptors
That said, if the Cavs can, they should consider trading Leonard.
According to Cavs Nation, every player is available except Collin Sexton. Sexton, who’s had a terrific summer league, looks to be one of the Cavs most promising players. However, he’s not the only young Cavalier with exciting potential.
Teams seem to be falling in love with Cedi Osman and Ante Zizic along with the perennial superstar Kevin Love. But, just for the Cavs, the cost of Kawhi Leonard might not be worth it. An all-in trade might not put them in the ideal position to improve in the future, seeing as it’d cost multiple first-round picks.
However, at the same time, if their goal is to stay relevant, trading for Kawhi Leonard is exactly how they do that. Before a team not named Los Angeles trades for Kawhi, they need to know he’ll be more than a one-year rental. That seems to be the main barrier keeping teams from creating that out-of-this-world trade offer.
That and the fact that due to injury Leonard played just nine games last season. It’s hard to justify trading that many quality assets for a player who might not even be the same top-five player we all saw a few seasons ago.
Is Kawhi Leonard worth it?
In order to answer the question, you have to create a trade or at least set parameters. Yes, Kawhi Leonard is worth Cedi Osman. Yes, he’s worth multiple first-round picks and Cedi Osman.
What’s the line though?
Is he worth Kevin Love, Cedi Osman, and two future first-round picks? What an offer that would be!
The Spurs, who seem reluctant to trade Leonard for less than face value, have a timetable on their plate. They have to eventually trade the star, and whether it be inner-conference or not, they need to take the best offer.

That said, if the Cavs want to be relevant, and they want to be relevant for many, many years to come, then they need to make that trade. Get the commitment and the make the deal. It’s that easy!
