It’s time for the Cleveland Cavaliers to turn the page, and it’s on Tyronn Lue and Collin Sexton to steer that ship in a new direction.

The Cleveland Cavaliers’ new beginning is an exciting time for the organization and its fan base.

Whether or not Cleveland adopts tanking will be determined over the course of next season, and perhaps beyond that. What needs to happen (and is looking like it’s happening in Summer League play) is Cleveland changing its style of play to incorporate its different personnel from the last few years.

I don’t believe it’s outside the realm of possibility for Cleveland to ultimately have a new big three (of sorts) with two-way contributors in Sexton, the much-improved Cedi Osman, and roll man extraordinaire Larry Nance Jr.

Hopefully, Cleveland’s front office can indeed sign the young big to a contract extension soon, as it was initially reported by Cleveland.com’s Joe Vardon that the two had mutual interest.

As fellow KJG writers have demonstrated in recent days, Sexton has been what Cleveland’s front office thought he would be and then some, as he’s flashed a little bit of everything in his toolbox.

Sexton has what it takes to be an All-Star in this league, and could be this team’s alpha for years to come. His speed in the open floor and ability to explode past defenders in settled offense has accounted for 18.8 points and 3.3 assists per game, and that’s enabled Marcus Lee, Billy Preston and others to get easier looks.

Despite only being 6’2,” he is more than capable at the rim, finishes through contact well in the paint, and is flashing a capable pull-up jumper.

He’s got that killer mindset, too, and is never going to back down from a challenge, when it comes to both ends of the floor. He locks on opposing ball-handlers well, both in isolation and in pick-and-roll coverage, and has really strong hands that are magnets for loose balls and high crossovers.

His two-way tenacity is what can lead this Cleveland rebuild, and set the tone a nightly basis. He has the physical tools and mentality to be a leader of men, and I expect to Lue to coach him hard. As a former NBA point guard himself, he has the credibility to do so with Sexton.
