Game recap: Cavs lose to Bulls, 86-81
By Simon Hannig
It was the second day of summer league for the Cleveland Cavaliers, but they were without Cedi Osman and Billy Preston last night. The Cavs fell to the Bulls 86-81.
It was however, the young guys in Collin Sexton and Ante Zizic who were impressive once again. Sexton did have an injury scare early on, but he seemed to be fine once the game went on. The Cleveland Cavaliers thrived behind their youth.
Let’s talk about Zizic right now.
The NBA G-League and, specifically, playing games for the Canton Charge has done wonders for him and his development as a player. Charge head coach Nate Reinking and company did a heck of a job.
Zizic against the Bulls had 25 points (11/14 from the field), 11 rebounds and two assists.
Sexton is once again showing why he is worth being selected the No. 8 pick in this past year’s draft. Sexton had 14 points, two assists, two rebounds and one block. Here are some nice plays during the game: A nice finish in traffic and a beautiful bounce pass in transition.
Sexton in two games of play in summer league so far is averaging: 14.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block per game.
Zizic in two games of play in summer league so far is averaging: 20.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and one steal per game.
Over time, Sexton’s jumper will improve, and if Kyle Korver is still on this team, it would do wonders for Sexton to go to Korver and see if he can help him out on his jumper.
John Holland was also impressive for the Cavs last night. He finished with 11 points, despite shooting 4/14 from the field, he also had three assists and one rebound.
The team obviously did not look the same without Osman and Preston on the floor, but you still saw a lot of potential from the young guys, especially from Sexton and Zizic.
Here are some nice plays by Zizic.
This is a big developmental year for Zizic, He may have expanded minutes with the Cavs next season and if he continues what he is doing now, the sky is the limit for him.
The Cavs future is bright and it has shown over the past two nights in Las Vegas.
The Cavs also shot 43.4 percent from the field and 18.5 percent from three-point range.
