2018 NBA Free Agency: Ranking the Cleveland Cavaliers top 25 options
No. 3: Chris Paul
Next on the list is the renown Chris Paul. Paul has been one of the league’s premier point guard for the last decade, but it wasn’t until last season that CP3 was actually put on a true contender. His Rockets pushed Golden State to seven games yet finally falling as Paul missed the last few games.
On the court, Paul averaged 18.6 points and 7.9 assists, both lower than his career average. However, as we saw against Golden State, Paul’s leadership could easily be his most important quality. When Harden and company shoot and miss several straight threes, Paul normally takes it upon himself to make a smart, easy play.
The Cavaliers need someone that can make the smart play while being able to score at will. Along those lines, Paul and James are pretty good friends.
According to SLAM, Paul is expected to pursue a max contract. While the Cavs don’t have that space available as of now, with a trade they could make it happen.
It seems obvious to everyone but the management that something must happen for the Cavs to retain LeBron James. Signing CP3 is that something. Give him the pitch, tell him LeBron would join him (hopefully), and see if they can make a couple Finals runs.
