2018 NBA Free Agency: Ranking the Cleveland Cavaliers top 25 options
No. 10: Derrick Favors
After averaging 16.3 points per game two seasons ago, Favors saw that almost cut in half the season prior to last and then just slightly increase from that total last season.
If you followed that, it means that either Favors is losing his touch or the prominent impact of Rudy Gobert is affecting how well he scores. I’d bank on the latter. That’s not to say that Favors can’t still be impactful.
He’s starting to develop a three-point shot while being young and hopefully flying under the radar of most teams. The No. 3 overall pick in the 2010 NBA Draft is just 26 years old.
The best part is that he’s a 6-foot-10, can play center, and has a 1.3 blocks per game career average. The Cavs need someone to protect the paint and bring in a more elusive, offensive threat could alleviate some pressure off James while not sacrificing anything defensively.
If the Cavs could get Favors to sign for the MLE which is just over $7 million, that’d be perfect. The Cavs haven’t had a well-rounded big playing alongside Love since his arrival in Cleveland.
