After declining his player option, LeBron James is now a free agent.

2010, 2014 and here we are now in 2018 where LeBron James is still the best player in the world.

Entering his sixteenth season, LeBron once again must decide where he will take his talents. Currently, the Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Lakers are rumored to be at the forefront of his decision-making.

The choice may be narrowed down to a few teams, but the decision in itself holds a lot of weight.

A source told me a couple of weeks ago that family weighs heavily on his future. This leaves me to believe his choices are truly narrowed down to only Los Angeles and Cleveland.

Cleveland offers something no other team can, it’s closest to home.

“Before anyone ever cared where I would play basketball, I was a kid from Northeast Ohio. “  This was the first sentence of the four-time MVP’s coming home letter back in 2014.

His goal was to achieve at least one championship in his return.

Mission accomplished.

Now as we look at Cleveland’s roster from afar, it’s not that encouraging in terms of competing for a championship. Sure with LeBron, you have a very good chance of making it to the NBA Finals, but unless the current roster is completely re-worked, they’ll be lucky to win one game.

That’s what LeBron wants to avoid.

Los Angeles is currently the favorite to land LeBron and for good reason. They have enough cap space to sign two max players along with a solid young core.

Many have argued that even if Paul George and LeBron come together to join the current Lakers roster, they’d still lose against the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets. Maybe that’s the case, but let’s look at it in a different light. If you add George and LeBron to the 2017-2018 Lakers, is it fair to say that team may be better than the 2017-2018 Cavaliers?

Maybe, maybe not.

This may be why the front office is trying to pry Kawhi Leonard away from the San Antonio Spurs.

As for Leonard, his situation is still up in the air. There are so many reports that contradict each other at this point it’s worth sitting back and waiting for some real transactions to take place.

Seriously, save yourself a headache.

A trio of Kawhi, George and LeBron would be a very, very good team. By the way, this team would indeed compete with Golden State and Houston, but is it worth interrupting their process.

As I’ve mentioned before, take every rumor with a grain of salt.

LeBron’s decision yesterday to opt out of his contract leads us that much closer to the one we’ve all been waiting for.
