The Cleveland Cavaliers are in jeopardy. But, can they be saved?

The Cleveland Cavaliers front office is in for a very big challenge in this offseason.

In an NBA where the offseason is already more entertaining than the Finals, there have been some rumblings about the future of players on their teams. LeBron James is eligible and expected to decline his player option and garner interest from other teams.

Obviously, losing LeBron James would be a tough pill for anyone to swallow. With each passing day, it seems as if the St. Vincent-St. Mary legend will leave Cleveland.

With a shortage of assets, the Cavs do not have the ability to be frontrunners in the race for stars like Kawhi Leonard. They don’t have the cap space to sign players.

The only thing that has allowed Cleveland to be contenders is the fact that they have LeBron James and that they have and had GM’s such as David Griffin and Koby Altman who were able to pull off trades and sign players on the buyout market for the veteran’s minimum (eg: Jeff Green ).

This is what led the Cavs to be able to build teams around LeBron James.

However, in this offseason things will be a bit different. Cleveland now has a lottery pick that can be used to draft a player who could lead them in the future.

Remember Kyrie Irving was the man who would Cleveland to contend in the East post-LeBron. But since he requested a trade Cleveland has no future and no hope for life after LeBron. Cleveland can also trade the pick for a star who can help LeBron James.

This inner debate between contention and rebuilding is the predicament of the Cavs.

However, with the right moves, they can become a Superteam.
