Scenario: LeBron Stays; Shake up the core

Goal: Focus on winning now, trade away key players/draft picks

Why it makes sense:

Now, let’s assume LeBron James elects to return to the Cleveland Cavaliers for the 2018-19 NBA Season. The Cavaliers may decide to shake up their core and try something new.

The Cavaliers certain have some options available to them. First off, the news that Kawhi Leonard wants out of San Antonio should be very tempting to the Cavaliers. I think the Cavs should make a push and offer up Kevin Love, as well as the 2018 First Round Draft pick, in exchange for Leonard.

If that doesn’t work, there are still other options. Love can be packaged with the draft pick in a number of different ways. The Cavaliers could realistically go for players such as Paul George, and CJ McCollum.

The Cavaliers could even find a way to keep Love and trade the draft pick for another star. Kemba Walker of the Charlotte Hornets would be the most likely target. Walker would provide the extra offense the Cavaliers need.

Would this be the best move for the Cavaliers?

There is no telling. However, it’s clear that the duo of Love and James is not enough to win a championship. James needs an elite playmaker by his side in order to get the job done. We can’t have a repeat of the 2018 NBA Playoffs. This is why the Cavaliers should look to trade Love and find a more suitable partner for James.
