Scenario: LeBron James leaves; Cavaliers enter a full rebuild

Goal: Trade Kevin Love, Kyle Korver, JR Smith, and George Hill. Keep the 2018 No. 8 draft pick.

Why it makes sense:

Let’s start off with the worst case scenario. In this case, LeBron James leaves the team in free agency and the Cavaliers elect to start fresh. This means it’s time to trade for young prospects.

Trading Kevin Love would be the first move the Cavaliers should make.

More from King James Gospel

Believe it or not, Love still has trade value in the NBA. Love is an All-Star caliber player and can be very useful in trade packages. I would suggest the Cavaliers trade Love along with another older player, in exchange for young stars and or draft picks.

The Cavaliers would need to target a team that is ready to win now. The Boston Celtics may be a good option. The Celtics have an excess of young talent and may be open to trading for a star player such as Love.

Other teams, such as the Kings, Suns, and Hornets may be willing to trade for Love. This is because these franchises have been begging for a star player to play for them for years.

Obviously, the Cavaliers would keep their 2018 first round draft pick.

The Cavaliers have the eighth pick in this year’s upcoming draft. This pick would prove to be vital in their rebuild. A ton of talented players have entered the draft this year, many of them are big men. The Cavaliers could potentially draft the next face of the franchise.

This outcome wouldn’t be ideal for most Cavs fans. The Cavaliers would likely be below average for quite some time. However, if they manage to draft quality players, the team will be set for greatness in years to come.
