Cleveland Cavaliers: Top 15 draft picks in franchise history
John “Hot Rod” Williams is a very underrated Cavalier legend. He was drafted with the 45th pick in the 1986 NBA Draft.
Williams played nine seasons in Cleveland, scoring double figures in each of them. Hot Rod Williams never led the team in win shares, but he did usher in a roster of Cavaliers that ended up bringing them their best roster until the arrival of LeBron James.
Williams, who stood 6-foot-11, ranks No. 2 in blocks, No. 4 in rebounds, No. 3 in minutes, No. 6 in steals, No. 7 in points all-time for the Cavaliers. There wasn’t much Williams couldn’t do, but his team did not bring the city of Cleveland a championship, and in the end, that’s one reason he fell to No. 9 on our rankings.
While those are some telling stats, Williams did play all nine of his impactful seasons in Cleveland and hit the floor in over 65 games in all but one season. So, while Williams did go down as a legend in Cleveland, he never really lit up the scoreboards like some of the players above him did.
