Cleveland Cavaliers: Top 15 draft picks in franchise history
With the 20th pick in the 1983 NBA Draft, the Cavaliers selected Roy Hinson from Rutgers University.
Hinson was a powerful 6-foot-9 and was a dominant force in his three seasons in Cleveland. Unlike Johnson, as Hinson progressed in his career, he continued to get better, peaking during his third season in Cleveland. In Hinson’s best season, he averaged 19.6 points per game on 53.2 percent from the field.
Hinson led the 1984-1985 Cavaliers to a playoff berth. During that first round, Hinson averaged 16.8 points per game on 54.2 percent from the field. The Cavaliers were swept that season by the Boston Celtics, led by Larry Bird and Kevin McHale.
During the following season, Hinson led the Cavs in win shares, a feat only 28 players in Cavaliers history have done. Hinson wasn’t a historic name for the Cavaliers organization, but he certainly did lead their team for a few seasons.
