Cleveland Cavaliers: Top 30 all-time greatest players
By Ben Beecken
Wesley Person was ahead of his time when it came to 3-point shooting proficiency, shooting 41.8 percent for his career from long-range, including 43.6 percent as a rookie with the Phoenix Suns in 1994-95.
Person was traded to the Cavaliers prior to his third season in the NBA and promptly scored a then-career-high 14.7 points per game in 1997-98 while shooting 43 percent from beyond the arc while starting in all 82 regular season games. The 47-win Cavs were swept out of the playoffs by the Knicks in the first round, however.
Person saw his numbers dip in the lockout-shortened 1998-99 campaign and again in 1999-00 and 2000-01, but bounced back to average a career-high 15.1 points per game while shooting 44.4 percent on threes while launching 4.1 attempts per game — a lot of 3-point attempts for the early 00s.
While the team didn’t enjoy much success in the four years following Person’s first year in Cleveland, he was one of the best shooters in franchise history and deserves to appear on this list.
