Potential lineup changes

Before the playoffs even began, it was announced that Jeff Green would be a starter for the remainder of the season.

Green, who has had his ups and downs all season long, was 0-7 from the floor on Sunday afternoon. Green also failed to score a single point in Game 1.

Green may be better suited for a roll off the bench in the playoffs, while Larry Nance Jr. or J.R. Smith would be better suited for a starting role.

Smith, who has not exactly had the best season, showed his value in the second half as the Cavaliers made their charge back. Nance Jr also added 10 points off the bench and provided a spark off the bench.

Also, a key piece for the Cavaliers throughout this season was the play of veteran point guard Jose Calderon.  On Sunday, Calderon on saw the floor for a little over nine minutes.

He helps on both ends of the floor and needs to see more minutes.

Even it is only 12-15 minutes a night, Calderon’s energy and effort are undeniable.

More importantly, the Cavaliers just need better performances from their starters.

The four starters not named LeBron were just 10-30 from the floor for 25 points. James recorded his 20th career playoff triple-double (24 points, 10 rebounds, 12 assists) but his uncharacteristically slow start baffled many.

It is understandable James wants to get his teammates involved. However, with his team falling behind early, LeBron needs to be more aware of the situation and take it upon himself to help soften the early blow.

It will be interesting to see how Cavs head coach Tyronn Lue adjusts in Game 2.

He has been loyal toward Jeff Green but the Cavaliers can ill-afford another slow start. Lue will need to have a short leash on Green, it is the playoffs after all and Lue cannot be afraid of hurting feelings. He needs to do what is best for the team.
