Cleveland Cavaliers: What we learned vs. Brooklyn Nets
George Hill is out of his slump.
Hill has had a tough time adjusting to playing in Cleveland. He came into this game averaging just 9.0 points per game on 32.6% shooting in a Cavs’ uniform.
Hill broke out of that slump Tuesday night as he was the team’s second-leading scorer posting 26 points while shooting three of four from behind the arc. He also contributed five assists and three steals in the win.
Hill has had a tough adjustment in Cleveland. He might be the perfect point guard to play alongside LeBron, but he’s a bad match with the current Cavalier starters. He’s a play-making guard that plays well off the ball. However, pairing him with players such as Thompson, Osman, and Smith who aren’t currently creating their own shots makes Hill the secondary scoring option that is often forced to create for himself.
Hill isn’t a guy who is comfortable being the secondary scorer to LeBron. That’s not what he was brought here to do and that won’t be his role when Kevin Love returns. But that’s his role now. He has been asked to attack in isolation more than he’s probably comfortable with leading to his spotty play so far.
Even though he may be uncomfortable in his current role, he showed why the Cavaliers valued him so much. Maybe a game like this is just what he needed to break out of his funk.
