Cleveland Cavaliers: Lessons from the Cavs dominant victory over Boston
George Hill could be the perfect point guard to play with LeBron.
Hill won’t be the best point guard to play with LeBron. Kyrie Irving firmly holds that title for now. Although after just one game, Hill is showing just how special he can be for this team.
Hill didn’t look comfortable the whole game. Lue simplified the game plan as the team ran mostly high pick-and-rolls. Besides that, Hill looked hesitant at times playing next to LeBron and deferred to him repeatedly in the first quarter.
That changed as the game progressed. Hill’s activity on the defensive end of the floor set the tempo for the rest of the team. His seven-foot wingspan disrupted the Celtics’ offense as he recorded three steals. He also showed that he can push the pace and attack in transition.
Hill’s skill-set compliments James perfectly. Hill is an excellent spot up shooter who can be a lock-down defender on the perimeter. He’s also good at attacking in both the pick-and-roll and in transition. Those are all the skills you need to play alongside LeBron.
I’m interested to see how the chemistry between James and Hill progresses as they get more practices and playing time underneath their belts. If Sunday afternoon was any indicator, it appears like this is a partnership that has the potential of being special.
