Cleveland Cavaliers: Evaluating their team halfway through the season
By Hasan
The Offense
Despite most of the offense seems to flow through LeBron, his usage has risen just 0.8% to 30.9% this season. The percentage of field goals he assists whilst on the floor, however, has risen by 5%.
Currently, the Cavaliers are scoring 109.9 PPG which is good for fifth in the league. Their 109.2 PPG last season at this point also ranked fifth in the league. The Cavs also ranked 15th in FG%, 4th in 3-point percentage whilst dishing 21.5 assists per game.
One year on, the Cavs are 6th in the league in FG% and 3P% whilst averaging 23.4 assists per game.
There doesn’t seem to be a huge change in the offensive strength of the Cavaliers, though the chemistry on offense is very noticeable in some games. More and more players seem to be recognizing and finding the open man more frequently this season. Despite this, stagnant stretches of offense still remain with too much isolation play.
With Isaiah Thomas being added to the team, it’ll be interesting to see how the offense changes from now on.
