Cleveland Cavaliers: Kyle Korver has been phenomenal this season
The Cleveland Cavaliers resigned Kyle Korver to a three-year deal this past offseason, and it’s been worth every penny of it.
The Cleveland Cavaliers acquired Korver in January of 2017 from the Atlanta Hawks for Mike Dunleavy, Mo Williams, and a future first-round pick. In 69 games played for the Cavaliers, Korver is shooting 48.4 percent from the field and 46.6 percent from three. While averaging 10.3 points per game over that span.
This season he is second in basketball among guys who have played at least 20 minutes per game in true shooting percentage at 67.5 percent, behind only Houston Rocket Clint Capela.
This season when Korver has not been on the court (866 minutes) the Cavaliers are minus 5.6 per 100 possessions. But when Korver is on the court (771 minutes) the Cavaliers are plus 12.9. The Cavaliers have a defensive rating of 102 with Korver on the court and a defensive rating of 114.2 with Korver off. That’s just a taste of Korver’s impact.

Korver has been part of the Cavaliers unbelievable bench unit. The second unit for most of the season has been Korver, Wade, Green and Frye. When those four have been on the floor together they have a net rating of plus 13.1. They all do something different which has helped them be successful. Wade runs the unit and has the ability to create for himself as well as for others. Korver and Frye are lights out shooters who really spread the floor. Green does a little bit of everything for the unit.
For as good as Korver has been this season, he has played even better in the fourth quarter. Korver is second on the Cavaliers in fourth-quarter scoring at 4.8 points per game, only behind LeBron James. His shooting stats also increase in clutch time. He is shooting 51.5 percent from the field and 47.6 from deep in the fourth.
Korver has had a couple of monster fourth quarters this season. Including a game, you may remember against the Knicks in November. The Cavaliers were down 15 entering the fourth quarter. Korver came up big with 19 fourth-quarter points to help the Cavaliers get the win. He had another 19 point fourth-quarter against his former team Atlanta Hawks, unfortunately, the Cavaliers lost that game.
For the Cavaliers season to end the way they want it to end, the team will need Korver to keep knocking down shots and play as effective as he has been so far this season.
Korver has been electric and needs to continue to be electric as the Cavs could soon start to stumble after a terrific couple of months.
