Should LeBron James, the Cleveland Cavaliers superstar, want his team to trade away the Brooklyn Nets first-round pick or not?

While many analysts think they know what LeBron James will do following this season, his free agency decision will truly be a mystery until after this season. There are an array of ways this season can end for the Cleveland Cavaliers, and each way will certainly have a different impact on LeBron’s final decision.

That said, should the Cavaliers take the extra precaution to enhance their team, thereby giving up a potential star who would be drafted with the Brooklyn Nets first-round pick which was acquired in the Kyrie Irving trade? Or, should LeBron James want the Cavaliers to keep the pick and build for the future? In my opinion, it will be all on where James’ priorities lie.

If a trade does go down, you better bet LeBron James will know about it and have some say in the decision. He might also have the ability to cancel it if he’s adamant about building a long-term dynasty in Cleveland.

However, James’ opinion on the value of the pick might come down to the value of the player Cleveland would acquire. Paul George and his superstar talent have not been the fit in Oklahoma City that most thought he would be. His name has been swirling around in trade rumors, and Bleacher Report even did an article arguing that a PG13 to Cleveland trade could happen immediately, following December 14, the date George is eligible for trade.

Along with George, DeMarcus Cousins has also been rumored to be on the Cavaliers wishlist. But, Paul George would be a much better addition, and his fit alongside LeBron James could make the Cavaliers the best team in basketball. The Cavs would also be able to keep Kevin Love, who has been one of their best players this season.

The other side of the story is just as convincing though. With the injury to Missouri freshman Michael Porter Jr., the Cavaliers could potentially select him with a top 5 pick in the loaded 2018 NBA draft. With the vast array of talent, the Cavaliers could possibly get an NBA-ready player to immediately help them against Golden State.

As for LeBron James, his happiness should be a top priority for the Cleveland Cavaliers, so whether the Brooklyn pick is kept or traded could be on him. It’s hard to say where his mindset it, but his comments about “chasing the ghost in Chicago” implies that he cares about rings. He cares about winning as many rings as Jordan, and that might mean trading away the Brooklyn pick to create one of the best teams ever assembled.
