4. Mohamed Bamba

In every year’s NBA Draft, the scouts make comparisons of the top prospects to current or past NBA players. When we want to compare Mohamed Bamba to someone, this decision doesn’t take long. He is the new Rudy Gobert/Hassan Whiteside. He is a 7-foot-1 player with freaky athleticism, a 7-foot-9 wingspan and the ability to protect the rim like only a few players we’ve seen. To think – he’s just 19 years old and he might keep growing.

During his junior year at high school, Bamba averaged 14 points per game with 11 rebounds per game and 6 blocks per game. His incredible performances in high school earned him a spot in the 2017 McDonald’s All-American Game as well as the Nike Hoop Summit. It was, then, certain that he would be a top prospect for all colleges, and that we would be a top pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.

After being recruited by every high rated college, including Duke and Kentucky, Bamba decided to take his talents to the University of Texas. Any team would be lucky to have an elite defender that doesn’t need the ball in his hands too much. Especially the Cleveland Cavaliers, who happen to have the worst defensive rating this season. There’s an old saying: Defense wins championships. And Mohamed Bamba could help the Cleveland Cavaliers do exactly that.

The only weakness it Bamba’s game seems to be his contribution on the offensive end. Even though he has a pretty good shot from that extends the 3-point arc, he is not a very consistent scorer. Even though we’ll have to wait and see his offensive game during his college season as a Texas Longhorn, his offensive struggles shouldn’t really bother the front office of the Cleveland Cavaliers.
