Who should the Cleveland Cavaliers select with the Brooklyn Nets’ 2018 first-round draft pick?

The Cleveland Cavaliers acquired a draft pick via the Kyrie Irving trade, but not just an ordinary pick. A few years ago, the Brooklyn Nets decided to trade away a number of first-round picks to Boston, in exchange for the very old trio of Jason Terry, Kevin Garnett, and Paul Pierce. The Celtics ended up clearing a ton of cap space but also drafting Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, who seem to be future stars. In other words, this trade was a complete robbery, as a few years later the Celtics are competing for the championship while Brooklyn is trying not to finish at the very bottom of the Eastern Conference.

So when Boston decided to include the Nets’ 2018 first-round pick in the Irving trade, everybody was certain that this would be a top pick that would grant Cleveland one of the upcoming NBA stars. Even though a lot has been heard about Cleveland wanting to trade this pick in order to acquire a big name player, an official trade has yet to happen. Maybe the Cavs don’t trade away this valuable pick and end up drafting a young star in this upcoming NBA Draft.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are by far the oldest team in the NBA, with an average age of 29.5 years. Therefore, they need to start getting younger.

What is the best way to get younger and prepare your franchise for the future? You draft the young players that will help you rebuild once your stars retire or decide to leave. The Cavaliers have just 2 players under the age of 25 in their current roster, Ante Zizic, and Cedi Osman.

The 2018 NBA Draft Class is a very talented one, as everybody has been talking about potential NBA superstars like Porter Jr. and Mohamed Bamba for years. The Cavaliers have two options in the 2018 NBA Draft.

Option 1 is draft a player that will complete this current roster and help the Cleveland Cavaliers win now.

Option 2 is draft the best player available that will be able to take over once the LeBron era comes to an end.
