The Cleveland Cavaliers dropped another game they should’ve won with a 117-115 loss to the lowly Atlanta Hawks.
The Cavs were down by 16 in the fourth quarter, but they fought back to have a chance to win the game late. Channing Frye missed what would’ve been a game-winning three-pointer at the end of regulation. Dwyane Wade missed a tip-in that would’ve sent it to overtime.
Cleveland continues to struggle with lesser competition. The Hawks came into the game on an eight-game losing streak and were riddled with injuries. But, that doesn’t matter when you don’t show the necessary effort to win. The Cavaliers came out slow and allowed Atlanta to score 37 points in the first quarter. The Cavs were forced to play from behind all game, and just like previous matchups against Orlando, Brooklyn, New Orleans, and Indiana, they didn’t have enough in the tank to complete the comeback.
The Cavs wasted an outstanding 64 point performances from the bench. Dwyane Wade finished with 25 points, 6 assists, 11 boards, and a block. Kyle Korver contributed 23 points on 5 of 11 shooting from deep. They both led the team in plus/minus with +23. LeBron James led the team in scoring with 26 points, 13 assists, 5 boards, 2 blocks, and a steal.
It was a total team effort for the Hawks. Each starter finished with at least 14 points. Dennis Schroder led all scorers with 28 points on 9 of 13 shooting and 9 assists.
The Cavs continue to play down to their opponent. It came back to bite them again. Here’s what we learned from the loss.
