While J.R. Smith has been the Cleveland Cavaliers starting shooting guard since LeBron James returned to the Land and Dion Waiters was traded, 12-time All-Star Dwyane Wade will be the starter this season. At least at the start of the season. With Rose starting at point guard in Thomas’ absence, this could be a nightmare for floor spacing. However, when Thomas returns, the Cavs will have both floor spacing and two of their best playmakers in the starting lineup. Wade is a savvy veteran who makes his living inside of the arc and knows how to get the ball in the hoop. His defensive ability will be a drop-off from Smith’s but with Smith behind him and Iman Shumpert in the rotation (at least until Thomas returns), there are great on-ball defenders behind him. John Holland is an interesting player who could find himself called-up to the NBA in the event of a backcourt injury. He’s a certified scorer and a solid defender but a player without a definitive position (something that doesn’t matter much in today’s NBA).
