Cleveland Cavaliers: A master list of current trade possibilities
Shumpert/Frye/2019 first to the Pelicans for DeMarcus Cousins
This is the trade idea that has been looming over the Land for quite some time. DeMarcus Cousins is with superstar Anthony Davis right now in New Orleans, but could that change if the experiment fails?
DeMarcus Cousins is in a contract year this upcoming season, so it will be of utmost importance that he proves his max-contract worth. Cousins helped the Pelicans’ spacing issues by knocking down 2.1 threes per game, but by adding Rajon Rondo, those issues were just put on a new level. The experiment in New Orleans might only frustrate Cousins, who had a 7-10 record in his 17 games with the organization last season, and the Pelicans would be better off trading him for some guaranteed assets than watching him walk. But, the good thing for Cleveland is that the tag team of Cousins and Davis somewhat thrived, or at least, it had a +2.4 +/-, which is better than the Pelicans -2.1 on the season, but it’s not pretty when they aren’t on the court.
Therefore, not only could they gain a future asset, but Shumpert and Frye could also come in and improve their roster. Frye’s ability to shoot, as displayed in earlier scenarios, would immensely help Davis operate in the low-post. Davis shot just over a quarter of his field goals from inside three feet, so having a dangerous threat to kick the ball too might be a fantastic idea for this poor shooting team.
This deal could certainly help both teams out, but if it is ever discussed, it will be following a breakdown in New Orleans.
