Cleveland Cavaliers: A master list of current trade possibilities
Iman Shumpert to San Antonio for a first-round pick
The Spurs defend. Defending and developing is what has continued their success after the Tim Duncan-era ended. Now, the Kawhi Leonard-era is up next, and Iman Shumpert might be a perfect person to put alongside him.
Danny Green is the current shooting guard with Kawhi Leonard, but Green doesn’t take much of the offensive burden away. In fact, Green shoots about 70% of his shots from three-point range and over 90% of these shots are assisted on. Green is the definition of a 3-and-D player. While Shumpert has aspects of that style incorporated into his game, Shump would be able to help ease the offensive load.
Right now, the Spurs backup shooting guard is Manu Ginobili, who might be finally ready to take fewer minutes and a backseat to a young player. This is where you insert Iman Shumpert. He would be able to play beside Kyle Anderson on the Spurs’ second unit. The grit of the Spurs, who had the league’s best defensive rating at 100.9, would make Shump feel right at home. Shumpert could play the 1-3 and help immensely if Pop ever wants to turn to a small-ball style of play.
Just like the Rockets, the Spurs are perennially a good team. That said, a first-round pick that is almost guaranteed between 20-30 shouldn’t be asking too much for Shumpert.
