Cleveland Cavaliers: Is another big move on the horizon for the Cavs?
With more news breaking, there could be a chance that the Cleveland Cavaliers could make another blockbuster trade before the season’s commencement.
The Cleveland Cavaliers, like I went over previously, are in an interesting dilemma that could eventually take a couple different avenues. With the recent signing of Dwyane Wade, several of their players lose quite a bit of value on a team with extreme depth.
Depth is a terrific characteristic of a team, but the Cavaliers have so much depth that talented players might not get their chance to shine often. That said, they could trade one of them. But, that isn’t the only option.
Eventually, if the Cavaliers do not trade anyone, they will have to cut a noteworthy name from their roster. The most likely option for this avenue is the departure of Jose Calderon, a point guard signed earlier this offseason. While that option and a few more were laid out more extensively in the article above, this move could involve new Turkish star, Cedi Osman. Why? Because he could be the newest Cav on the block.
It’s not necessarily that the Cavaliers want to trade him, but it’s either trade him or cut another player. If the right offer comes across the table, would Koby Altman make the deal to keep Calderon, Green, and Jefferson all on the team? Altman, in his short tenure as general manager, has done excellent in trades with his sole trade being the Irving deal to Boston. That said, going into more trade talks, Altman should continue to excel.

Just like with Irving, Shumpert or any Cavalier that could be and has been traded, the process is the same. Altman needs to set parameters on a trade and not settle for less. For Osman, is his value a first-round pick? Could his value be a protected first-round pick? Would the Cavaliers couple a player like Osman along with a cap stuffer like Shumpert to reel in a player like Blake Griffin, or even something crazier like Thompson and Osman for DeAndre Jordan? The possibilities are truly endless when considering a trade that could be put together for Osman, and obviously without real evidence of who wants him, crafting hypothetical trades seems useless.
Earlier today the Cavaliers had a pretty simple dilemma — cut Calderon or trade a player like Shumpert or Frye away. Now, the Cavaliers are at an even tougher crossroads. Do they keep their future star (we hope he turns out to be a star) or do they let him walk for a slightly better chance at a championship? This team is already built to succeed with so much experience and loyalty. From my perspective, you keep Osman until a monster deal comes along, and if that never happens, so be it. Regardless of my opinion, the Cavaliers, as a team, are at a new crossroads that they will have to cross sooner rather than later.
