The Cleveland Cavaliers have created an interesting dilemma for themselves heading into training camp.

At this point, it’s really up in the air as to how this situation actually plays out, but the Cleveland Cavaliers are by no means finished making moves.

The Cavaliers, who thought they had their team finalized, signed Dwyane Wade, LeBron James’ close friend and basketball mastermind who was bought out by Chicago earlier this offseason. Once thought to be Perkins, according to Shams Charania, JaCorey Williams will be waived in order to sign Wade.

Assuming Edy Tavares and Kay Felder are already planning to be cut following training camp, the Cleveland Cavaliers would still have to trade/cut someone. The likely subject is Jose Calderon, who, ironically, Cleveland signed earlier this summer. Calderon was a security net for the Cavaliers who signed Derrick Rose, a highly injury-prone point guard. Along with Isaiah Thomas’ injury history, it would be smart to have a veteran like Calderon on the depth chart. Another cut possibility is Jeff Green. Green has also signed earlier this offseason in hopes to add depth and garner meaningful minutes on a contending team, but with the addition of Turkish star Cedi Osman, Green might not be as needed anymore.

The only problem for Calderon is now the Cavaliers have Dwyane Wade. Wade, in his rookie season, actually spent the majority of his minutes playing point. His ability to shift to the one and even start the season as the point guard could be invaluable for the Cavaliers. Invaluable to the Cavs and detrimental to the thought of ever seeing Calderon suiting up in a Cavs jersey.

Regardless of where he plays, since Wade was signed, another move has to be made. Trading a player is also a possible option. Both Iman Shumpert and Channing Frye will be looking at reduced minutes this season due to the Cavaliers’ addition depth. That said, their usefulness will dip tremendously as the season goes on. Trading Iman Shumpert or Channing Frye would also free up some cap flexibility for the upcoming offseason.

It seems the Cavaliers have two options. Cut someone or trade someone. We likely won’t get an answer till the end of the Cavaliers’ training camp, but it certainly is a story to keep your eye on throughout the remainder of the offseason.
