What will Wade’s role be on the Cavaliers and how will he fit in?

If the Cavaliers bring in Wade, he will replace current starter J.R. Smith at the shooting guard position. Even with Wade set to turn 36 in January of next year, he is still a player that can fill up the stat sheet and can be a key piece on a team competing for a title.

Last season with Chicago Wade played in 60 games and averaged nearly 30 minutes per game.  Each season is unpredictable, but with Wade’s injury history it would be a pretty safe bet to he will sit some games and have reduced minutes.

The Cavaliers will have a deep enough roster to be able to sit Wade some nights.  With players such as J.R. Smith, Iman Shumpert and Kyle Korver also able to play the shooting guard position.

The relationship with LeBron aside, having a deep roster is something that will attract Wade because he knows he will not have to overexert himself on either end of the floor, which is something he had to do at times last year in Chicago.

Now if anyone thought that J.R. might be unhappy with having to move to the bench if Wade was added to the team, he shut that down yesterday at media day.  The winning culture that LeBron brought with him to Cleveland seems to be rubbing off on Smith.  He has come a long way who was once referred to as a “throw-in” in a trade which sent him to Cleveland.

Wade is a no-nonsense type of player. He would bring veteran and championship experience to a team in the hunt for another title.  With the sour taste in the team’s mouth after losing this past summer to the Warriors, winning seems to be on everyone’s mind. Wade’s addition would only help the team.

Obviously, the Cavaliers cannot match the Warriors firepower.  However what they can do, especially if Wade signs in Cleveland, is use their roster to their advantage.  Use the experience of the players to out-work, out-will and out-compete their toughest opponent.

The Cavaliers would have a good problem if they added Wade to their roster.  Besides, it will take all the necessary talent to try and beat the Golden State Warriors if the two teams once again meet in the NBA Finals.
