The Cleveland Cavaliers, due to Dwyane Wade’s relationship with LeBron James, are reportedly frontrunners for the former superstar.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Brian Windhorst, the Cleveland Cavaliers are the leaders in the race for Dwyane Wade. They said this:

"The Cleveland Cavaliers have emerged as a clear favorite to land newly minted free agent Dwyane Wade, after he agreed to a buyout agreement with the Chicago Bulls on Sunday, sources told ESPN.com."

This came after the anticipated buyout of Dwyane Wade. The 12x All-Star and 8x All-NBA team member will be turning 36 this upcoming season. Believe it or not, but Dwyane Wade still, just like Carmelo Anthony, has gas left in the tank. Last season he averaged 18.3 points and 3.8 assists per game.

According to the Daily Thunder, an ESPN TrueHoop affiliate covering the Oklahoma City Thunder, both Carmelo Anthony and Paul George, stars that have recently joined OKC, are recruiting Wade to join them. Wade is also receiving interest from Miami, a place he played 13 of his 14 NBA seasons at.

The interest surrounding Wade and his ability to contribute meaningful minutes is quite high for a 35-year-old. But, even with other teams chasing him, the Cavaliers have two of the most important cards they can still play. For starters, they have one of his best friends on and off the court, LeBron James. James and Wade shared four seasons together thriving in South Beach and many offseason with each other’s families. From a basketball perspective, Wade wants to win, and with LeBron, in Cleveland, he could do just that.

The second reason is the role. The Cavaliers, unlike most other teams, could re-arrange their starters for Wade. Wade can still play, and it is possible that the Cavaliers offer him a starting position, one of the only things they can offer him, being extremely tied up in money. While that could push J.R. Smith to the bench from his perennial starting shooting guard position, Wade has been able to, throughout his career, also slide over and control the point. With Rose injury-prone and Isaiah Thomas out for a while, the Cavaliers could lure Wade with an enticing role to lead the championship-caliber team.

The Cleveland Cavaliers seem to have a knack for attracting aging, valuable players this offseason. They re-signed Kyle Korver and added Jeff Green to their already mega-deep list of small forwards. For Wade, since training camp starts up soon, expect Wade’s decision in the near future.
