Derrick Rose could prove to be arguably the most valuable player on the Cleveland Cavaliers, outside of LeBron James, this season.

Derrick Rose is coming off a very solid season with the New York Knicks, averaging 18.0 points. 4.4 assists, and 3.8 rebounds. Without certainty, one can only hope that those numbers transition to his new team, the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Rose has suffered a mass amount of injuries during his career. All beginning in the 2012 playoffs when he suffered a torn ACL. The following season he made it through only 10 games before tearing his meniscus in his right knee, and then missed 20 games the following season because of trouble in the same knee.

However, Rose did play in 66 games in the 2015 season, as well as 64 last season, before again, tearing his meniscus.

Rose entered free agency hoping to land on a team that was competing for a championship, and that’s exactly what happened. The Cavaliers and Rose were able to agree to terms on a one-year deal worth $2.1 million.

When the deal was made, Cavs GM, Koby Altman had his mind set on what Rose’s role was going to be with the team.

"(h/t cleveland.com) “We signed Derrick Rose, who will be a great off-the-bench backup point guard,” Altman said."

However with the recent acquisition of All-Star guard, Isaiah Thomas, that will certainly change. Thomas suffered a torn labrum in Game 2 of the eastern conference finals, and there is no timetable for his return.

Due to Thomas’ injury, Rose will start for the eastern conference champions, not come off the bench as previously thought.

He will take on the crucial task of replacing Kyrie Irving. While many of the Cavaliers members liked Irving, Rose’s imperative duty will be winning his new teammates over and gaining their trust.

In conclusion, Derrick Rose will have to be nothing short of valuable in order for the Cleveland Cavaliers to succeed. If not, the Cavs could be in for a long season.
