Trade: Shump to the Pels, Omer Asik and a second-round pick to the Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers should hold themselves to a higher expectation than most teams. Coming in at No. 12 in rebounds per game and No. 21 in offensive rebounds per games should irk their bigs. This team needs better rebounding, and it starts with their second unit.

Tristan Thompson and Kevin Love, while on the court together, post a solid 53.0% defensive rebounding percentage. Together, they dominate the boards while in. But, the second unit sets a different tone. The Cavaliers’ bench averaged the 29th most rebounds per game and they were dead last in offensive boards per game at 1.6. This where you insert Omer Asik.

Asik, while in Houston, was an unstoppable force in the middle of the court. He averaged 11.8 rebounds per game in one season, and he could very well average about the same with 20+ minutes of time.

Asik and a pick for Shumpert could be exactly what both teams might need. The Pelicans just added DeMarcus Cousins, so they don’t have use for a mediocre but valuable big on their bench.
