CLEVELAND, OH – NOVEMBER 25: Iman Shumpert

The Cleveland Cavaliers are in the season of trade, and Iman Shumpert, who has already been actively shopped, is certainly an expendable asset.

First, it was Kyrie Irving, and in the midst of that, we learned Iman Shumpert also requested to be traded, or so a report from ESPN said. The Vertical’s Shams Charania denied that report. Whether or not you believe the reports, the facts are the same: the Cleveland Cavaliers have actively dealt Shumpert in the past and could continue to actively look for deals.

Shumpert is set to make $10.3 million this upcoming season and just over $11 million if he opts into his player option. His trade “request” makes it seem unlikely that Shumpert would choose to return to Cleveland. But, if he values money more than happiness, Shumpert will stay. At just 7.5 points per game, Shumpert has not proven to any NBA team that he worth over $11 million a season.

Shumpert was a solid rotational player for the championship-caliber Cavaliers last season. He showed up in 76 games and started just under half of those. He also managed to play a significant 25.5 minutes per game. He has value. He can shoot, he can defend, and he could be a solid rotational player for just about any team, but Shumpert’s contract and any team not knowing if he will opt in could present issues.

That said, let’s take a look at several trades the Cavaliers could inquire about in order to deal Shump.
