Isaiah Thomas is a better fit than Kyrie Irving
Spot Up Shooting
Isaiah Thomas has quietly become one of the best three point shooters in the game. He shot .379 percent from behind the arc and .429 percent from corner 3’s while taking 8.5 threes per game last season.
Thomas is a deadly spot up shooter. He was in the 92nd percentile in spot up jumpers last season averaging 1.22 points per possession. He posted a shooting percentage of .460 and an effective field percentage of .609 percent. These numbers are better than Irving who averaged 1.15 points per possession with an effective field goal percentage of .599 percent in spot up situations.
Thomas’s spot up numbers were great last season even though he was the primary facilitator of the offense. Those numbers are certainly expected to improve given that he won’t be the focal point of the opposing defenses. With LeBron dishing him the ball, the shots should be easier to hit for the small Thomas.
