Trade #3: New Orleans Pelicans — DeMarcus Cousins and Kyrie Irving

Assuming Carmelo Anthony would waive his no-trade clause to join his buddy LeBron James, the New Orleans Pelicans might be intrigued to get in on the Kyrie sweepstakes. This trade is 100x more likely if Kyrie Irving is still demanding a trade and the New Orleans Pelicans are not doing as well as they should come February.

DeMarcus (Boogie) Cousins seems to have trouble playing with stars, and with Anthony Davis in New Orleans, the test could easily fail, especially led by Rajon Rondo. In 17 starts for the Pelicans in the 2016-2017 season, Boogie averaged 24.4 points per game. His numbers are terrific, but in his time with New Orleans, the Pelicans went only 7-10. If this team can’t make the playoffs, the rebuild around Anthony Davis should take another course, and teaming him up with Kyrie Irving would be a solid option. The 24-year-old Davis could make a dynasty with Kyrie Irving, who is only 25.

The Knicks are not a necessary third team, but a team that would enjoy the presence of Tristan Thompson around the paint is a necessary third team. This trade might work for both teams especially with the former MVP Derrick Rose signing in Cleveland to give the Cavs stability at the point. The last statement is very hopeful, I know.

If both teams are in an uncomfortable situation come February, why not do this trade?
